Leslie Wilson

Local writer Leslie Wilson was born on the Lisburn Road before moving to Dunmurry. His poetry reflects on growing up in Belfast during the 1970s and 1980s, blending lyricism, dark humour and sharp observation.

His collections include:

  • Welcome To My Head
  • Nothing Makes Sense
  • Who Would Have Thought

Held up as a precedent, for all the world to see
How little Ulster saved itself, from a life of misery
We listen to the sound bites; each day's a brand new start
Yet our celebrated peace walls, keep communities apart.

Séamas O'Reilly

Séamas O'Reilly's bestselling memoir, Did Ye Hear Mammy Died, received widespread acclaim for its moving blend of grief, dark humour and unforgettable family storytelling.

His debut novel, Prestige Drama, is set in a Derry captivated by the arrival of Hollywood actor Monica Logue, who comes to star in a Troubles drama titled Dead City. When she mysteriously disappears, suspicion falls on Diarmuid, the struggling screenwriter who was the last person to see her.

A witty and sharply observed novel exploring a community simultaneously fascinated by, and fearful of, confronting its past.

"Rollicking... caustic, withering and genuinely funny."
Independent

"Disarmingly hilarious."
Sunday Times

Wendy Erskine

Wendy Erskine is the author of the acclaimed short story collections Sweet Home and Dance Move.

Her latest novel, The Benefactors, winner of the Waterstones Irish Book of the Year, explores the aftermath of the sexual assault of teenager Misty, examining trauma, privilege and the responses of both families involved.

"A writer of an unrivalled range of imaginative empathy."
Financial Times

"Erskine's great gift is for character. Not a single figure in this novel feels contrived."
The Guardian

Anna Carey

Anna Carey is the author of seven acclaimed young adult novels. Her RTÉ drama podcast The Famine Monologues aired in 2021, while her play The Making of Mollie premiered in 2024.

Her latest novel, Love Scene, has been described as an irresistible modern screwball comedy. It follows Annie McDermott, who lands her dream job writing for a television soap, only to discover that someone is determined to sabotage the production.

"Utterly delicious. I couldn't stop reading this."
Marian Keyes

"With plenty of steam alongside the soap, Love Scene is a novel full of hope and heart."
Irish Times
