The Great Sham That Was the Irish Boundary Commission

Speaker: Dr. Francis Costello

When the Irish Boundary Commission was established in 1924, the British Government had already laid the foundations for partition. The Northern Ireland administration had been formally inaugurated by the King in June 1921, James Craig was already serving as Prime Minister, and a parliament had been elected.

In this talk, Dr. Francis Costello examines the political manoeuvring behind the British Empire's attempt to create what was presented as a "Final Settlement" in Ireland, and why, in his view, it proved to be anything but final.

Free event. No booking required.

Organised by the Féile an Phobail Debates and Discussions Committee.

Cur i gCéill Mór Choimisiún na Teorann

Cainteoir: An Dr. Francis Costello

Nuair a bunaíodh Coimisiún na Teorann sa bhliain 1924, bhí bunús na críochdheighilte leagtha síos ag Rialtas na Breataine cheana féin. Seoladh réimeas an Tuaiscirt go foirmiúil ag an Rí i mí an Mheithimh 1921, bhí James Craig ina Phríomh-Aire cheana féin, agus bhí parlaimint tofa ann.

Sa chaint seo, díreoidh an Dr. Francis Costello ar an scéiméireacht pholaitiúil a bhí taobh thiar d'iarracht Impireacht na Breataine "Socrú Deireanach" a dhéanamh in Éirinn, agus ar an bhfáth nárbh amhlaidh a bhí.

Imeacht saor in aisce. Ní bheidh áirithint ar bith de dhíth.

Eagraithe ag Coiste Plé agus Díospóireachtaí Fhéile an Phobail.
