Lagan Valley Regional Park

Stretching between Belfast and Lisburn, Lagan Valley Regional Park is Northern Ireland's first and only regional park, encompassing over 2,000 hectares of countryside, woodland, meadows, heritage sites and riverside trails along the River Lagan. oai_citation:0‡Lagan Valley Regional Park

Established in 1967, the park offers a unique blend of natural beauty, wildlife and history. Its landscape includes ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, nature reserves and historic sites, all connected by the scenic Lagan Towpath which follows the route of the former Lagan Navigation. oai_citation:1‡Lagan Valley Regional Park

The park is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including kingfishers, herons, otters, salmon and red squirrels, while its woodlands and meadows provide important habitats for native plants and wildflowers. Visitors can also explore significant heritage sites such as Giant's Ring, Shaw's Bridge and the remnants of Belfast's industrial and linen-making past. oai_citation:2‡Lagan Valley Regional Park

Today, Lagan Valley Regional Park serves as a vital green corridor connecting people with nature, heritage and recreation, offering miles of walking and cycling routes in tranquil surroundings just minutes from the city.

A landscape where nature, history and heritage meet along the banks of the River Lagan.
