Abbeydene House EHOD 2026

Abbeydene House, formerly Lismara House, is a Victorian mansion designed by Charles Lanyon, beautifully located on the shores of Belfast Lough beside Hazelbank Park. Built in 1850, the house has had a number of notable owners, including Lanyon’s own son—all will be revealed by your host during your visit.

After the death of the last private owner, the house became an old people’s home in the 1950’s, closing in the 1980s before falling into dereliction. This period highlights the vulnerability of historic buildings when their original purpose is lost. Its careful reinstatement in the 1990s demonstrates how heritage at risk can be successfully conserved and given new life.

Visitors will be welcomed with tea or coffee and biscuits.
