Blackstaff Mill - 19th Century Linen Mill EHOD 2026

Step inside Blackstaff Mill for a rare chance to explore one of Belfast’s historic linen mills and uncover the stories behind its industrial past. Wander through spaces once filled with activity—from cutting rooms to ornamenting areas—and discover how this “community within a community” helped shape the city’s identity as Linenopolis.

Through guided tours, photographs, plans, and an impressive scale model, visitors can trace how the mill has changed over 200 years and learn about ongoing efforts to preserve its legacy.

Reflecting this year’s theme, Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine, Blackstaff Mill highlights the importance of protecting Belfast’s industrial heritage and finding new life for these historic spaces. It also connects to USA 250, exploring how the linen industry thrived during the American Civil War, when cotton shortages in the United States strengthened Belfast’s global role in textile production.

A fascinating opportunity to experience a key piece of the city’s heritage up close.
