First Dunmurry Non Subscribing Presbyterian Church EHOD 2026

Founded in 1676, this historic congregation worships in a church dating from 1779—one of the finest examples in Ulster of a “barn church,” with its large rectangular form and distinctive hipped roof. The building is closely associated with the Rev Dr Henry Montgomery, leader of the Non-Subscribers in the 19th century and founder of the Remonstrant Synod, and is believed by many to have been designed by Belfast architect Roger Mulholland.

Inside, visitors can admire original 18th-century box pews and pulpit, along with an important stained-glass window by Robert J. Norman of Campbell Brothers (1902), commemorating the McCance family. A number of memorials add further interest, including those dedicated to Henry Montgomery and his son, who died in India in 1856, as well as a pulpit restoration memorial to Miss Elizabeth Andrews, daughter of RMS Titanic designer Thomas Andrews.

Visitors are warmly invited to explore this remarkable space. A guided tour of the church and graveyard takes place on Saturday at 11.30am, while Sunday’s 11.30am service includes a short talk on the church’s history. The award‑commended Church Library will also be open to visitors on Saturday.
