Discover the story of Northern Ireland's linen heritage at Titanic Belfast during this special European Heritage Open Days weekend. Inspired by the free Northern Threads exhibition at Titanic Belfast, visitors can explore the journey from flax to linen through live demonstrations, talks, storytelling and hands-on activities celebrating one of Belfast's most important industries.
Throughout the weekend, guests will have the opportunity to see traditional weaving techniques, learn about the unique craft of linen beetling and try simple weaving activities for themselves. Titanic Belfast crew and partnering groups will share songs, stories and memories connected to life in the mills, shining a light on the experiences of the women and young workers known as "millies."
The programme will also explore how linen continues to inspire contemporary fashion and design today, showcasing how makers and designers are reimagining traditional materials for modern audiences.
Part of European Heritage Open Days 2026, this free event celebrates the skills, stories and creativity that have shaped Northern Ireland's linen legacy and continue to keep it alive today.
