Sean Kelly & The Super 8's is an audio-visual experience unlike any other, combining live music, archival film and storytelling in a powerful celebration of memory, place and identity.
Sean performs live Irish music against a backdrop of Super 8 films shot in and around Derry and Donegal between 1958 and 1988. The footage was captured by Sean's father, Seamus Kelly, a renowned Derry Super 8 enthusiast whose films were featured in the BBC Northern Ireland series Super 8 Stories.
The music is a blend of traditional, contemporary and original compositions. Sean has written many of the songs and tunes specifically to accompany the footage on screen, while the remainder draws on influences gathered during his time as an Irish musician in Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Adding a third dimension to the performance is Sean's storytelling.
Through intimate and often humorous personal stories, he reflects on growing up in the North West of Ireland during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, from his days at Long Tower Boys' School overlooking the Bogside to summers spent in Donegal, particularly on the Rosguill Peninsula, his mother's birthplace.
Blending nostalgia, music and moving images, the show offers a deeply personal portrait of family, community and place.
Prepare to laugh, reflect and be transported through music, film and story in this unique and unforgettable Fleadh experience.
