Neon artwork “IN LOVE WE TRUST”
“In Love We Trust” is a large-scale neon artwork created as a gesture of hope during increasingly dark and divided times. The work explores how light can operate both as comfort and quiet resistance, using neon to create a public statement that feels intimate, human and emotionally charged. For me, the piece is about holding onto tenderness, connection and collective care at a moment when those things can feel fragile or under threat. The neon glow becomes both invitation and provocation, asking whether love itself might still be one of the most radical acts of survival we have left.

ARCHIVE!!! PUBLISHING !!! PING-PONG!!!
Isn’t counter culture still culture? Pop by and argue the case with our brand-new, for one-day, and one-day-only, publishing studio. The co-directors have been pouring blood, sweat and tears into reviving the 33-year archive of Catalyst, and we can’t keep COUNTER CULTURE PHENOMENA OF BELFAST to ourselves. At its core is the rejuvenated archive, reimagined by the co-directors as a series of faux newspapers printed directly onto wooden boxes. These boxes are not just for display, but function as sites of absurdity and experimentation. Arranged in configurations, they will become ping-pong tables, introducing a layer of irony where play, print, and counterculture can collide. The space expands into three stations forming our temporary publishing studio: a writing station, where participants can contribute short, surreal, or silly stories; a doodle station for spontaneous visual creations and illustrations; and the third station is a surprise activation, an evolving dept. designed to respond to the energy of the night. Throughout the evening, we’ll be collecting the contributions, which will be curated into a freshly assembled newspaper documenting Counter-Culture Night 2026. There will only be two editions produced: one for the organisers of culture night, and one to go straight into the Catalyst Archive (after being carefully catalogued, of course).

Sing for Life Choir Performance
The Sing for Life Choir was established over 10 years ago by Cancer Focus NI. It is a non-audition choir that is open to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis, may that be a patient, carer or family member. The choir is now over 80 members strong and rehearse once a week in Belfast. The fun, friendly and supportive environment provides a therapeutic experience in which individuals can meet others affected by cancer, whilst learning new choral skills along the way. The choir’s repertoire ranges from upbeat & popular music to traditional sacred songs, meaning there is something for everyone. It truly is a remarkable community of people and as our strap line says – ‘it’s no ordinary choir’. We would provide a single performance of a variety of contemporary and classical songs arranged and conducted by Keith Acheson and performed by approximately 30-50 members of the Cancer Focus Sing for Life Community Choir. We would request that we have collection buckets at the event for fundraising purposes. This is an AccessAble venue: https://www.accessable.co.uk/belfast-city-council/access-guides/victoria-square

Ports of Call
Ports of Call is a solo live performance by Luigi Cirillo, Belfast-based composer and multi-instrumentalist behind the Fusionarium project. The set takes the form of a musical journey through the cities and cultures that have shaped Cirillo’s work: Naples, Belfast, and beyond. Each song is introduced through the story of a physical object: an instrument found, borrowed or gifted along the way. A Neapolitan mandolin passed on by a Belfast folk musician. A guitar that crossed the Mediterranean. A clarinet that found its way into music it was never meant for. Using voice, guitars, clarinet, looper and live electronics, Cirillo layers acoustic folk traditions with contemporary sound in real time; building each piece from silence, live on stage, with no backing track and no band. The result is intimate, unhurried, and unlike a standard concert set. Ports of Call is created specifically for Culture Night Belfast 2026 and reflects the spirit of a city that has always been a place of arrival, departure and exchange.
